José Juan Tablada Acuña (1871-1945) foi um escritor, poeta, jornalista e diplomata mexicano. Sua obra lírica deu lugar à poesia moderna no México. Ele também incorporou o desenvolvimento do haicai, ou versos japoneses, na literatura latino-americana, uma contribuição consideravelmente inovadora.
O trabalho de Tablada abrange vários gêneros literários, incluindo: ensaios, narrativas e poesia. Ele também se destacou pela criação de caligramas, ou seja, pela formação de imagens ou desenhos por meio de palavras. Uma de suas obras poéticas mais marcantes foi: Li-Po e outros poemas.

Tablada também se dedicou ao estudo da arte, principalmente no que se referia ao pré-colombiano, ao hispano-americano e ao contemporâneo. Em suma, sua vida foi passada entre a literatura, o jornalismo e a diplomacia. Foram vários cargos que ele ocupou a serviço de seu país no exterior.
Biografia
Nascimento e família
José Juan nasceu em Coyoacán, México, em 3 de abril de 1871, em uma família culta de classe média. As informações sobre sua vida pessoal são escassas: não há informações sobre os nomes de seus pais, irmãos ou outros parentes.
Tablada Education
José Juan Tablada estudou seus primeiros anos de estudos em sua terra natal. Seu estágio escolar ocorreu no Heroico Colegio Militar, localizado próximo ao Castelo de Chapultepec. Mais tarde, ele entrou na Escola Preparatória Nacional para continuar seus estudos.

Primeiros empregos como escritor
Tablada sentiu-se atraído pela escrita desde jovem, por isso não hesitou em dar os primeiros passos no mundo das letras quando surgiu a oportunidade. Em 1890, aos dezenove anos, começou a escrever para a seção dominical Rostos e máscaras do jornal El Universal.
Caminho para o reconhecimento
Em 1894, quatro anos depois de ingressar no jornal El Universal, publica Ónix. O poema apareceu nas páginas da Revista Azul, com ele começou a ganhar reconhecimento e fama. Naquela época, ele demonstrou seu alinhamento com a corrente modernista; ele também escreveu em revistas como El Maestro e La Falange.
Tablada e o
O gosto e a paixão de Tablada pela literatura e cultura sempre estiveram na superfície. Em 1898, já enquadrado no modernismo, deu origem ao nascimento da Revista Moderna, na qual traduziu vários autores, principalmente franceses, e publicou alguns contos de sua autoria.
Primeira coleção de poemas
Sua atuação abriu as portas para outras mídias, como: Excelsior, El Mundo Ilustrado e Revista de Magazines. Em 1899 publicou sua primeira coleção de poemas: El florilegio. Naquela época, aproveitando o boom de suas cartas, também escreveu para diversos jornais internacionais, tanto da Venezuela quanto da Colômbia, e também dos Estados Unidos.
Começos diplomáticos
A política interessava a José Juan Tablada, por isso, no início do século XX, iniciou a sua carreira diplomática. Foi representante do México em países como Estados Unidos, Colômbia, Equador, França e Japão. Do último país, ele nutria um grande interesse pela estética literária, especialmente poemas haicais.
Tablada durante a Revolução
A experiência política de Tablada o manteve ativo durante a Revolução Mexicana de 1910. Ele manifestou sua crítica de oposição ao governo de Francisco Madero e, após sua saída em 1913, não hesitou em apoiar Victoriano Huerta. Essa postura determinada deu-lhe a vantagem de dirigir o Diário Oficial.
Logo, em 1914, Huerta foi derrubado, então foi assediado pelas tropas de Emiliano Zapata. Ele não teve escolha a não ser ir para os Estados Unidos, especificamente Nova York. Depois voltou, juntou-se a Venustiano Carranza e retomou sua carreira diplomática como embaixador em Caracas.
Literatura sobre a carreira diplomática
Depois de ter servido como embaixador na Venezuela, José Juan Tablada foi confiado ao Equador em 1920. Porém, pouco depois, decidiu renunciar, pois a altitude de Quito, a capital, não lhe convinha bem. Após sua aposentadoria do cargo, ele voltou ao seu país e depois foi para Nova York.
A literatura sempre desempenhou um papel importante na vida de Tablada, e talvez por isso ele também tenha deixado o serviço diplomático. Instalado na "Big Apple", criou a Biblioteca Latino. Em 1922, e por um ano, ele retornou ao México, onde recebeu a nomeação de "poeta representante da juventude".
Produção em Nova York
O tempo que Tablada morou em Nova York foi amplamente dedicado à expansão de sua produção literária. Nessa época, publicou trabalhos como: Intersections, em 1924; e The Fair: Mexican Poems, em 1928. Nesse último ano foi nomeado membro da Academia Mexicana de Línguas.
Últimos anos e morte
Em 1935, José Juan Tablada voltou ao México, fixou-se na cidade de Cuernavaca e seis anos depois tornou-se membro correspondente da Academia Mexicana de la Lengua, instituição da qual exerceu a cadeira VII. Em 1945 foi nomeado vice-cônsul em Nova York.

Infelizmente não conseguiu cumprir sua missão diplomática, pois faleceu em 2 de agosto de 1945, em Nova York. Seus restos mortais foram transferidos para o México, graças aos procedimentos da Academia de Línguas. Atualmente repousam na Rotunda das Pessoas Ilustres.
Estilo
O estilo literário de José Juan Tablada enquadrou-se no modernismo, e também na estética do orientalismo, após a incursão que fez na América Latina do poema japonês haiku. Ele foi um escritor de literatura em constante inovação.
A linguagem utilizada pelo escritor caracterizou-se por ser clara, bem elaborada e estruturada. Além disso, deu-lhe um tom sarcástico e outras tantas vezes sublime. Sua poesia não gozava de grande expressividade, por isso seus poemas eram breves. Haiku era seu estilo favorito para essa característica.
Haicai
Tablada, conforme mencionado nas seções anteriores, foi quem introduziu os poemas japoneses conhecidos como haikus na literatura espanhola. A precisão e a brevidade desta forma poética foram ajustadas à característica concisa e pouco expressiva do autor mexicano.
Um haicai é estruturado em três versos brancos, ou seja, não sujeito a rima, mas com métrica. Desta forma, eles são compostos por cinco, sete e cinco sílabas, respectivamente. Seu primeiro gosto por esta tradição japonesa foi demonstrado em 1904, com uma edição ampliada do Florilegio.
Temático
Quanto aos temas desenvolvidos por Tablada em suas obras, principalmente a poesia, eram a natureza, os animais ou as plantas, bem como as características da paisagem de seu México natal. Em outras, como nos ensaios, ele se referiu à história de seu país.
Um estilo visual
Tablada foi um escritor que renovou a literatura, especialmente a poesia. Assim, ele se encarregou de dar às suas obras uma visão diferente. Foi assim que desenvolveu os caligramas: com eles formou imagens que deram outra dimensão aos seus poemas, bem como ao seu talento de vanguarda.
